This Policy Brief discusses the process of consolidating the Unified Social Assistance System (SUAS) in Brazil, as well as the correlation of this System with important national programs, such as the Bolsa Família Program, and tools such as the Cadastro Único.
It also addresses aspects of shared responsibility between different levels of government in the implementation of social assistance.
The document brings insights on strategic and operational management, the various facilities that enable implementation of programs and services and the factors that favor coordination between these facilities, services, and programs.
In its concluding remarks, the Policy Brief brings together some of the main characteristics that favor the governance of SUAS and the main implications of these on the social protection system, in addition to highlighting key areas where SUAS could improve.
