Mapping of Good Practices in WASH in Brazil

Developed within the framework of the Trilateral South-South Cooperation partnership between the Brazilian Cooperation Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UNICEF, this document provides an overview of the basic sanitation sector in Brazil.

It presents the main legal frameworks, as well as the key institutions responsible for the implementation of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) policies and services in the country. It also highlights initiatives that have proven to improve the population’s quality of life and that hold significant potential for adaptation to other contexts.

The best practices featured not only reflect Brazil’s commitment to the WASH agenda but also offer valuable lessons for other communities facing similar challenges.

This material is the result of concrete cooperation requests received by ABC and UNICEF from other countries. Among the motivations for this document is the growing demand from international partners for more information on how Brazil organizes and implements its services, programs, and policies in the basic sanitation sector.

Additionally, it seeks to support national and international partners engaged in Trilateral South-South Cooperation in broadening the range of Brazilian initiatives that may be of interest to them.
