Description

The Information System for Water Quality Monitoring (Siságua) is one of the main instruments of the Vigiágua Program, which aims to assist in managing health risks associated with the quality of drinking water.

The data are routinely entered or sent by municipal health professionals (Surveillance) and those responsible for water supply services (Control). Siságua generates reports with information that makes it possible to know the characteristics of the water supply in the country, such as:

• Population coverage by each of the forms of water supply at municipalities, state and national levels;
• Report of samples outside the potability standard established in current legislation, for each form of supply;
• Municipalities that do not have information in the system, among others.

This information supports the decision-making of the health sector in all spheres of SUS´s management.

Implementation Strategy

Siságua stores information on alternative water supply systems and solutions for drinking water, as well as on the quality of water from each of the registered forms, inferred by service providers (control) and the health sector (surveillance).

Data entry is basically divided into three parts: i) Registration; ii) Control; and iii)
Surveillance.

The Registration module aims to store information on the physical and operational characteristics of the forms of water supply used by the population. The Control module aims to store information on water quality monitored by those responsible for the collective drinking water supply. Finally, the Surveillance module aims to store information on the sanitary inspections of the forms of water supply and on the quality monitored by the health sector.

The Registration, Control and Surveillance data collection forms and the necessary documents for integrating the water supply companies' systems with Siságua are available on Siságua´s page. And the manuals and teaching materials detailing the procedures for the operationalization of the system are included on the SISÁGUA home page.

Diffusion strategies

The system is accessible through SISÁGUA´s website through user registration and login.

Monitoring strategies

The system is the main instrument for monitoring and evaluating the indicators of the Vigiágua Program.
