Desde os anos 2000 a Funasa realiza o lançamento de Editais de Convocação para projetos de pesquisas tanto no âmbito do seu Departamento de Engenharia de Saúde Pública (Densp), como também no âmbito do Departamento de Saúde Ambiental (DESAM).
Dessa forma, periodicamente a Funasa faz publicações científicas contendo os estudos e pesquisas fomentados via edital de recursos acerca da saúde ambiental e do saneamento .

The research that is published comes from university students, having a direct relationship with educational institutions that develop research on the themes of Basic Sanitation and Environmental Health.
Civil society; Public universities; Public education entities operating in the Basic Sanitation Sector; Public companies that performs research activities in science, technology or innovation (legal entity governed by public law).

The research proposals must be aligned with Funasa's mandate, observing the following thematic areas: Drinking Water Quality; Environmental Contaminants; Health Promotion; and Sanitation (in its four axes of action: water, sewage, solid waste and drainage).
State and/or municipal institutiont register their respective proposals in the Mais Brasil Platform. Federal institution register their proposals in Funasa's own registration system. The project must cover the entire investments required to implement the proposed study and/or reseaerch project to work, in accordance with current regulations. The proposal will be subject to analysis by Funasa's technical area regarding the adequacy and coherence of its objectives to the institutional program, associated with budget availability.
After approval of the Proposal/Work Plan by the technical area, Funasa generates an Agreement number, Decentralized Execution Term (TED) or transfer contract, as the case may be, on the Mais Brasil Platform and instruct an administrative process.
The public calls for proposals are published on the Foundation's website and social media.
The convening party must present information/documentation whenever necessary and technicians from the administrative area of Funasa will monitor the financial execution of the provided resources.
The research projects are funded through agreements or cooperation terms, signed with federal institutions in the Northeast, Southeast, South, Midwest and North regions.
