In 2018, the Simplified Water Treatment Solution - SALTA-z, presented by the mayor of Abaetetuba (PA), won the MuniCiência Ciclo 2017-2018 award, an initiative of the Brazilian Confederation of Municipalities and the UniverCidades Project. The project partnership involves the city hall through a concession from Funasa and is implemented in the riverside community of Maracapucu Caría. At the time, SALTA-z served about 500 homes in the community and is being expanded to 72 local islands. As a result of this solution, there were no new cases of diseases caused by contaminated water, such as Diarrhea, Hepatitis A and Typhoid Fever.
SALTA-z provides not only access to quality water, but also promote empowerment and awareness of people regarding social and collective responsibilities, mobilizing people and sharing knowledge, building commitments and a healthy environment for the entire community, forming leaders of themselves and critical citizens for the benefit of their place of origin.

Implemented in collaboration with the municipal management of Abaetetuba-PA
The target audience includes communities without access to potable water. As a result, the initiative directly impacts children and adolescents, although it is not yet possible to specify exact numbers.
Data from 2022 indicate that the project reaches approximately 75,394 people in the municipality of Abaetetuba-PA.
In Abaetetuba-PA, the project was started in 2018, with the prospect of being systematically applied through public rural sanitation policies.
Establishment of a Technical Cooperation Agreement between the city hall and Funasa.
The SALTA-z project was presented based on the expression of interest by the municipality, through mobilization and training meetings (workshops).
In 2021, workshops were held to provide updates on monitoring SALTA-Z installed in the municipality of Abaetetuba-PA, with the aim of raising awareness among the new management and giving sustainability to the project
The workshops were coordinated by Funasa, in partnership with the Secretariat of the Environment (Semeia, acronym in Portuguese) and the Municipal Secretariat of Agriculture (Semagri, acronym in Portuguese). The audience for the workshops was the operators of units already installed in the municipality.
